Camp Madison - August '07

Many thanks to Mike, Tom, Jeff, and Gary for spending the weekend providing us with canoe training. The weather turned out great despite a dismal forecast. The temperature was in the upper eighties during the day and in the upper sixties to lower seventies at night. We had a little bit of excitement when tornado sirens were heard Saturday afternoon. We only had a ten minute downpour and the sun came back out. Wind was brisk during the day on Saturday creating a challenge in keeping the canoes on course.
Mike's training team was excellent!!! Everyone from beginners to more experienced canoeists in our group all learned something. The training consisted of a mix of paddling technique, rescue methods, and games. Silent canoeing was practiced allowing us to view some interesting wildlife. We saw Egrets, Blue and Green Herons, a Cormorant, Kingfishers, Turkey Vultures, and Osprey.
